Lewis Hamilton will not take part in the 2024 post-season test for Ferrari at Abu Dhabi.
Hamilton will complete his move to Ferrari in 2025, with the seven-time world champion having just three races left with Mercedes – the team he has been with for 12 years.
When drivers switch teams it’s not uncommon for them to get their first action in their new car at the post season test but this won’t be the case for Hamilton due to a fulfilment with one of Mercedes’ title sponsors, Petronas.
Ferrari team principal, Fred Vasseur has revealed that the 104-time Grand Prix winner will test a previous car prior to the 2025 season starting alongside the annual pre-season testing in Bahrain, meaning he’ll have a good amount of time in Ferrari red before the season gets underway.
Talking to Autosport, Vasseur said: “I’m not sure that he needs tons of hours of acclimatisation,”
“He is experienced enough to be quick on the first day, or at least very soon. We’ll have one or two TPC days, plus the test in Bahrain, and that will be enough.”
“For sure we have part of the team already focusing on ’25, on the test plan, on the communication and so, with Lewis being part of this, but not on the race team and it’s not on my mind.”
